The Vision

Emerald Lakes has been designed with recognition that there must be a balance between natural and human habitats, one that respects and protects the intrinsic natural qualities of the surrounding environment while building a system that is celebrating and enriching the lives of the residents.  One third of the land will remain natural, managed as open space while compact neighborhoods and mixed-use non-residential areas are situated to allow preservation and protection of nature.  Emerald Lakes provides a balanced mix of uses reducing transportation demand and will seek to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, preserve water quality and reduce water and energy usage both at the community scale and building scale through implementation of sustainable design principles.     

Key Features of our modern master planned community include pedestrian friendly neighborhoods, a compact and walkable entertainment town center, varying residential housing options, interconnecting walkways, trails and greenways, and clustering of business, civic, school and community meeting places.  Design elements include the clustering of higher density development at the major intersections, initiatives for native landscape, providing groundwater recharge areas, redirecting water drainage flow towards conservation lands and restoring natural flow.  We will encourage the use of electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, and fuel-efficient golf carts.  Buildings will be required to maximize energy efficiency by including items such as Energy-efficient appliances, windows, doors and skylights, low solar absorption roofs, and enhanced insulation. 

Following Green Development Principles, Emerald Lakes will protect the ecosystems and conserve natural resources, by creating a pedestrian structure with sidewalks, bicycling, multi-use trails.  Maintain Green Utility Practices with water friendly plants, provide compost and mulch areas, and provide educational information to help achieve and promote Green Living Practices, Staff Training, and Environmental education in marketing materials and outdoor signage
